Inspired by the outlaw motorcycle clubs of the ‘60s, Confederate’s stunning P120 Fighter boasts a sprinkling of some neat aircraft-derived tech, like its riveted, “triple load path” construction as well as monocoque backbone, bulkhead and fuselage side plate construction made from aircraft-grade aluminium. It’s also quite different from the upcoming C3 Hellcat – which is believed to use an all-new Confederate/S&S powertrain architecture – in that the P120 features a 1966cc JIMS motor and transmission co-developed with Confederate.

Sporting a base price of USD 72,000, the minimalist Confederate takes 120 hours to assemble the 480 parts, with many of them residing where you’d least expect to find them. For instance, the compact dual exhaust bellows exhaust gases on to your gear-shifting foot from the bottom, front left side of the bike, while the oil tank is a canister just below the handlebars.
It’s definitely a looker, riding on a 63-inch wheelbase and sporting a massive 240mm rear tyre. What it isn’t is a corner carver though, but with optimized rake and trail geometry, you wouldn’t barrel head on to a tree either. Suspension is a Race Tech multi-speed adjustable unit, with the forward pegs placed high enough to prevent scraping in tight turns. Earlier Fighters had the high 12:1 compression ratio pushing the underpowered starter to the limits, but the grapevine is that it’s been strengthened and will be replaced on all P120 Fighters.
